Eligibility to become IPS
Educational qualification
To become an IPS officer, the candidate must be a graduate from a recognized university, students of the final year of graduation degree course can also appear in the examination.
Age criteria
To appear in the examination, the minimum age of the applicant is 21 years and maximum 32 years is mandatory, age relaxation is given to the reserved category candidates as per rules.
Physical fitness
Under physical fitness, the height of men is 165 cms. And the length of women is 150 cm. Must have , men’s chest should be 84 cms. And the eyesight of the applicant should be 6/6 or 6/9, the vision of weak eyes should be 6/12 or 6/9.

1.Preliminary Examination (Prelims)
There are two question papers of 200-200 marks in the preliminary exam conducted by UPSC , in this exam questions related to reasoning and analytical are asked, objective type questions are asked in both the question papers of preliminary exam, the candidates qualified in this exam are included in the main examination.
Preliminary Exam Syllabus
Paper-1
The first question paper of Preliminary Examination will include Geography of India and the World, Indian Monarchy and Governance (Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy), Indian History and Indian National Movement, Economic and Social Development (Sustainable Development, Poverty, Population), Subjects like Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity, Climate Change and General Science are asked questions related to Objective, National and International Current Affairs, etc. The time allotted to solve this question paper is two hours.
Paper- 2
Under the second question paper, questions related to General Mental Ability, Basic Numeracy and Data Interpretation (Chart, Graph, Table), Reasoning and Analytical Ability, Comprehension, Interpersonal Skills, Decision Making and Problem Solving, are asked in this question paper. The time limit is fixed at 2 hours.
2.Main Examination
Under the main examination, the applicant’s understanding, academic talent and the quality of his memory are assessed in this examination, there are a total of 9 subjects in this examination, in which two question papers are qualifying papers, and each is of 300 marks. | Subjects in the Civil Services Main Examination are divided into compulsory and elective subjects, Essay in compulsory subjects, four papers of General Studies, English language (qualifying) and Hindi or any language included in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution (qualifying) and Under the optional subject, any one optional subject selected by the candidate from the given subjects is included.

Interview
After clearing the main examination, the candidate is called for an interview, the interview is conducted by the Board of Civil Services, the applicant is analyzed in the interview about his interest in current affairs, social traits and personal thinking for a career in public service. In this test, some of the test taker’s assessment qualities are mental alertness, clarity and variety, logical exposition, depth of assimilation and interest, critical powers, balance of judgment, intellectual and social cohesion and leadership ability.
