JEE Main Intimation Slip 2027: Date, Download and Next Steps

Quick answer: The JEE Main intimation slip 2027 is scheduled for December 30, 2026 for session 1, and March 12, 2027 for Session 2. Log in on jeemain.nta.nic.in to download the city intimation slip for your JEE exam. The intimation slip carry the details in which city your centre will be. It does not carry your centre address, and it cannot stand in for the admit card.

Imagine two students who have prepared equally well for the exam. One opens his/her City Intimation slip on the day it goes live and booked the ticket within the hour. The other puts it off until the last day to book the ticket and discovers that the affordable fares have vanished. The first student knew the importance of the Intimation slip and had his/her ready for the exam day.

This blog explains what is Intimation slip, its importance, lists the dates for both sessions, how to download, shows what to verify, how it differs from the admit card, and give a 3-week plan from the intimation slip to exam day.

What Is the JEE Main Intimation Slip?

The JEE Main intimation slip, often called the advance city intimation slip or exam city slip, is a notice published by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on its website before each session. Its single purpose is to inform you of the city in which your exam centre will be located.

It exists so that you are not left guessing about travel. A candidate living in a small town can learn whether the exam city is down the road or a night journey away, and arrange everything with time to spare. Your precise centre, shift and reporting time are announced later, with the admit card.

  • Published by: National Testing Agency, on jeemain.nta.nic.in
  • Delivered: online only, through your candidate login
  • Meant for: every candidate whose application for that session has been accepted
  • Papers: you are intimated for the paper you applied for, whether Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.), Paper 2A (B.Arch.) or Paper 2B (B.Planning)
  • At the exam gate: not accepted. Only the admit card with a photo ID works

JEE Main Intimation Slip 2027: Important Dates

NTA has set out the full calendar for both sessions in the JEE Main 2027 information bulletin. Here are the dates that bear on the slip.

Event Session 1 (January) Session 2 (April)
Application window 24 October to 22 November 2026 5 January to 3 February 2027
City intimation slip 30 December 2026 12 March 2027
Admit card download 13 January 2027 25 March 2027
Exam dates 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28 January 2027 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 April 2027

For comparison, the 2026 January slip went live on 8 January, just thirteen days ahead of the first paper. The 2027 calendar is more generous: from 30 December to 20 January you have a full three-week runway. That matters most if you are travelling a long way, since early bookings are cheaper and rooms near centres fill up.

Pro tip: Try logging in early on release day. The portal tends to slow down once thousands of candidates arrive together, so late-night or early-morning attempts usually go through faster.

How to Download the JEE Main Intimation Slip 2027

Everything happens on the official website, and the whole process takes only a couple of minutes once the link is live.

  1. Open nta.nic.in by typing the address yourself. Avoid links forwarded in chat groups or social posts.
  2. On the landing page, find the notice about the city intimation slip for your session and click it.
  3. Fill in your application number and password. Where the page requests your date of birth instead, enter it exactly as it appears in your form.
  4. Read the security code from the picture, type it in and press Submit.
  5. Your slip opens on screen. Download the PDF and take a printout as well.
  6. Store the file on your phone and mail a copy to yourself so it is easy to find when you start booking travel.

Quick tip: Give the file a clear name such as “YourName_JEE-Main-Session1-City-Slip”. Two weeks later you will have an admit card to store as well, and tidy names save time.

JEE Main Intimation Slip Login: What You Need

You do not have to register again. The login is the one you created when you applied.

Item What it means Where to find it
Application number The unique number issued after you submitted the form Confirmation page PDF, plus the email or SMS from NTA
Password The one you chose while registering Your own record; reset it from the login page if you have lost it
Date of birth Accepted in place of the password on some screens Your application form and Class 10 certificate
Security code A short code shown as an image Appears on the login page every time you try

If You Have Forgotten Your Login Details

Both the application number and the password can be recovered online, provided the phone number or email from your application still works.

  1. Open the login page and pick the option for a forgotten application number or password.
  2. Type in your registered email address or mobile number, along with any other detail the page requests.
  3. Enter the one-time password (OTP) that gets sent to you.
  4. Note down your application number, or set a fresh password, and sign in again.

Should the OTP fail to show up, look in your spam folder and check the signal on the registered number before you try a second time.

What the Slip Shows and What It Leaves for Later

The format can vary a little from one session to another, yet the purpose never changes: confirming your exam city.

Found on the slip Released later, on the admit card
Your name and application number Exact exam date and shift
The paper you applied for Full address of the exam centre
Allotted exam city Reporting time and gate-closing time
Session Roll number and exam-day instructions

Your First-Minute Checklist

Do not glance at the city and close the file. Spend one minute on these three points while the PDF is open.

  • Name and application number: compare both with your confirmation page, letter by letter.
  • Paper code: Paper 1 is for B.E./B.Tech., 2A for B.Arch. and 2B for B.Planning. Confirm the paper listed matches your application.
  • Session: if you applied to both sessions, check that you are looking at the January slip.

If something is wrong, contact the NTA helpdesk without delay, attaching your application number and a scan of the document that proves the correct entry. Errors reported early are far simpler to correct.

Intimation Slip vs Admit Card

Each year some candidates arrive at the gate carrying only the city slip, and they are turned back. The two documents arrive at different times and serve different needs.

Point City intimation slip Admit card
Purpose Early notice to plan travel and stay Official pass to enter the exam
Session 1 release 30 December 2026 13 January 2027
Exam centre address No, only the city Yes, complete address
Date, shift, reporting time Not provided Provided
Accepted at the gate No Yes, along with a valid photo ID

A handy way to remember: the slip is for your family and your ticket booking, while the admit card is for the invigilator.

How Your Exam City Gets Decided

The allotment is not random. NTA reads through the cities you listed in your application, in the order you listed them, and assigns the first one that still has seats.

  • Your list comes first. A city with free capacity is given priority according to your ranking.
  • Full cities are skipped. If every centre in a preferred city is booked, the next choice is tried, and in some cases a different city in your home state is used.
  • Home state counts. Candidates are normally placed in the state of their address, as far as availability permits.
  • Overseas centres. Those who picked a city abroad are placed from the overseas list.

This is why picking realistic cities during the application matters. Choose places you can actually reach and think about the travel time from home.

Can You Ask for a Different City?

Plan on the assumption that you cannot. After the slip is published, the allotment generally stands. The one case worth raising is an obvious mistake on NTA’s side, such as a wrong state beside a correct address, and even then you must write to the helpdesk with proof.

Instead of waiting for a change, use your city as the starting point for planning:

If your city is… Do this
In your own town or within 2 to 3 hours Travel the day before, or that morning if your shift starts late
In another district or state Arrive a day ahead and stay near the city centre or railway station
A long journey away Book tickets on the day the slip is out, because popular routes sell out first

Your 21-Day Plan: From Slip to Exam Morning

Between 30 December and 20 January you have exactly three weeks. This is how to spend them.

When What to do
30 December to 2 January Get the slip, run the checklist above, and book tickets and a room close to the station
3 to 10 January Sit full mocks in the same time slot as your shift, and revise weak chapters rather than starting new ones
13 January Admit card day: download it, read the centre address and shift twice, and keep both a digital and a printed copy
14 to 18 January Trace the route to the centre on a map; gather your photo ID, admit card printout and a transparent pen
19 January Reach your exam city if you are travelling, and sleep early
20 January First paper

Smart move: When your city is in a different state, go with a parent or another aspirant who is writing the same day. It removes logistics from your mind and leaves it free for the paper.

Slip Not Loading? Quick Fixes

The release day rush is the most common cause. Go through these in order.

Problem What to try
No link on the page The slip may not be live yet. Check NTA’s public notice and come back later.
Login keeps failing Type the application number with no spaces, enter the password slowly, and reload the security code if it is hard to read.
Page is slow or crashes Use Chrome or Firefox, clear cache and cookies, or try at night or early morning.
PDF will not download Switch off pop-up blockers, try another device, or use Print and save as PDF.
Wrong detail on the slip Do not wait. Write to NTA with your application number and a scan of the proof.

NTA Helpdesk

  • Phone: 011-40759000
  • Email: jeemain@nta.ac.in
  • Website: jeemain.nta.nic.in

Keep your application number, registered mobile number and a screenshot of the problem handy before you get in touch. It helps them reply faster.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Mistaking the slip for an admit card. It will not get you into the hall.
  • Waiting for a message. SMS and email can be late, so check the portal yourself.
  • Overlooking small errors. A wrong date of birth or paper code can create problems later, even at counselling.
  • Trusting lookalike websites. Fake pages harvest application numbers and passwords. Type the official address yourself and never share an OTP.
  • Paying anyone for the slip. NTA does not charge for the intimation slip or the admit card. Anyone asking for money is not genuine.
  • Booking non-refundable travel too soon. Until the slip is out, only your preferences are known, not your allotted city.

If You Are Appearing in Session 2

The April session works the same way. Applications run from 5 January to 3 February 2027, the slip is due on 12 March, the admit card on 25 March, and the exams take place from 2 to 7 April. Everything on this page applies again, so you can reuse the same checklist and plan.

Final Word

The intimation slip is a small document, but it quietly decides how smooth your last three weeks will be. Finish your application by 22 November, keep your login details ready, open the portal on 30 December and act the same day. After that, your only job is revision. Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. What is the JEE Main intimation slip?

It is an early online notice from NTA that tells you the city allotted for your exam, so you can arrange travel before the admit card comes out.

Q2. When will the JEE Main intimation slip 2027 be released?

NTA has scheduled 30 December 2026 for Session 1 and 12 March 2027 for Session 2.

Q3. How do I download the JEE Main intimation slip?

Open jeemain.nta.nic.in, click the city slip notice, sign in with your application number and password (or date of birth where asked), enter the security code and save the PDF.

Q4. What do I need to log in?

Your application number, your password or date of birth, and the security code displayed on the page.

Q5. Is the intimation slip the same as the admit card?

No. The slip names your city. The admit card adds your date, shift, centre address and reporting time, and is the document checked at the gate.

Q6. I received no SMS or email. Can I still download the slip?

Yes. Messages can lag, but the slip stays on the portal once released. Sign in directly.

Q7. Can I change my exam city after the slip is out?

Normally not. The allotted city stands, and only a clear error on NTA’s side is likely to be reviewed through the helpdesk.

Q8. Why did I get a city I did not choose?

Allotment depends on your preferences and seat availability. If your chosen cities were full, NTA places you in another available city, often in your own state.

Q9. Do I get separate slips for B.Arch and B.Planning?

You are intimated for the paper you applied for, so candidates who registered for more than one paper may see separate entries.

Q10. Is there a fee for the slip?

No. NTA does not charge for the intimation slip. Anyone demanding payment is not genuine.
